Client Spotlight: Kayla Mattox Photography
Kayla Mattox Photography is wedding and couples photographer based in Yuma, Arizona. Kayla and Eric’s passion is to capture the connection between couples.
Kayla and I got connected through the Rising Society Facebook Group where she originally was looking to hire me for a totally different project, and then ended up hiring me to design the welcome packet she sends to her clients. From there as we started talking about her business, she mentioned she was looking for a Squarespace designer to redesign her website.
It didn’t take long for us to get started on gathering her copy and culling the images she wanted to use on her new site to show her updated style. Part of her homework was to share her ideal client, competitors, and her desires for the outcome of the whole redesign.
“I really want to portray that I am a professional. I want to clearly list my prices to avoid price shoppers, I want the website to be clean and easy to navigate but also eye catching.“
Once I’d gotten a better feel for what Kayla was looking for and needing to be on her site, I started designing her site directly in Squarespace since she had a website already that I could use as a foundation to build on. During each round of revision I’d send a proof over via Dubsado so that she could give feedback on each section as well as upload images where we needed to swap old ones out.
As part of her package we also designed her Wedding and Portrait Guides for her clients. These were downloadable PDFs that she could easily email to potential clients with details specific to that service, such as prices, FAQs, and products. A huge bonus to having someone who can design your website and your pricing or welcome guide is that they can easily keep the style and content consistent and updated across both platforms.
“I am so glad that I went with you. You have blown me away with your amazing talent.”
Once we had launched Kayla’s site, we hopped on a video call to walk her through her whole site and answer any questions she had about it. Over the next week I created custom videos to allow Kayla to feel confident in updating her own site.
My favorite feature
A year after launching the KMP site, Kayla came back to me looking for a homepage refresh to help them showcase their images more. Using the gallery feature and a little bit of custom CSS we created a gallery that was edge to edge down the homepage — even on mobile!
I also love the little design touches we placed throughout her site to tie in the gold in her logo. It’s the little touches that help your brand stand out in a crowded niche.
